Mercy Corps’ country program in Timor-Leste has operated at the forefront of the Nutrition-Sensitive Agriculture (NSA) and Social Behavior Change Communication (SBCC) space with a specific focus on the Designing for Behavior Change (DBC) methodology. We have a number of new and exciting programs in various stages of launch and maturation. This internship is aimed at supporting these programs, in particular through their various stages of research design, preparation, training, implementation, analysis, reporting, and communicating.
The RA will be working on a new NIH funded project aiming to identify environmental risk factors for sleep disorders in school aged children in Boston. This internship entails joining CNOP staff in increasing awareness of the SFSP program, documenting success stories of summer food service sites across the state and helping to build our repository of high-quality photographs of the Summer Food Service Program in action in Massachusetts.
This internship is an opportunity to run a series of classes at the Dimock Head Start center in Roxbury. During these classes, the intern would introduce new simple recipes to the head start kids (3-5 yrs.) and talk to them about healthy eating and age-appropriate, simplified nutrition concepts (like “Eating a Rainbow”). The recipes that we have developed are easy and can be prepared for the children in front of them. We have an induction burner and a blender (as well as various other kitchen implements) that can be provided so the recipes can be made.
This internship is ideal for a Masters or PhD student with an interest in qualitative data gathering and program evaluation. Direct prior experience is not required, though knowledge of program evaluation techniques and group facilitation is a plus. Reliable access to transportation will be necessary for this position as the communities are dispersed across the state. See attachment for more information.
This internship is ideal for an undergraduate or graduate student exploring the intersection of nutrition and culinary arts. Those exploring a dietetic internship may also gain valuable experience.
