What is the Competition?

The Tufts Food and Nutrition Entrepreneurship Competition is an Ideas competition sponsored by the Tufts Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy in collaboration with the Tufts Gordon Institute.  If you have a great idea related to food and nutrition in an early stage of development, you should apply.  You do not need to have completed a business plan or have identified sources of funding for your company or enterprise.  If you have already formed a company surrounding your idea or have begun to raise funds for your idea, you should not apply.

Who is eligible?

All Tufts University students (undergraduate and graduate), alumni, faculty, and staff are eligible to submit applications.  Individuals or teams may may apply. 

How do I apply?

Start the process by completing the application below to describe your idea.  Applications will be judged on the basis of the degree of innovation, identifying a viable market opportunity or issue, and the potential impact of the idea if implemented.  Finalists who are selected will be invited to pitch their idea at the Competition on April 12 at the Friedman School of Nutrition.  During the oral competition finalists will make pitches to a live audience and panel of judges with expertise in entrepreneurship.  Competition winners will be announced at the end of the afternoon.

Is mentorship available?

If you would like assistance from an experienced entrepreneur in development of your idea or preparation of your application, please e-mail TuftsNutrComp@Tufts.edu with a brief description of your idea.  

If you would like assistance from an experienced entrepreneur in preparation for your oral pitch at the competition, please indicate this on the application (above)

Prizes

$25,000 in prizes will be awarded to competition winners and runners up.  Further details about prizes will be announced in the near future.

Important dates:

  • Written applications are due March 9, 2018 at 5 pm.
  • Finalists will be notified by March 16, 2018
  • The Competition will be held April 12, 2018
