TIE Environmental Fellowship Opportunity

New Entry Sustainable Farming Project is interested in providing a student with a summer research opportunity to work with beginning farmers and our farm staff on a Conservation Innovation Grant (CIG) that will promote environmental and conservation strategies to new and beginning producers.  Many early-stage farm operators focus on honing production skills in the absence of sound conservation practices and often they do not use financial management and conservation planning strategies important to their long-term economic success. Additionally, many beginning producers tend to access available farmland that is more environmentally sensitive than other established farmers, thus creating ongoing production and conservation challenges.  Our goal for this CIG project is to empower 400 historically underserved beginning farmers to thrive through new educational programs and individual technical assistance to: adopt farm conservation planning; demonstrate innovative conservation technology approaches to protect soil, water quality, and improve farm production outcomes; increase participation in federal conservation programs; and promote integration of conservation principles with farm profitability goals.
