Job Description

Under the direction of Division Director, manages selected projects and initiatives that may change over time with a major focus on healthy food and beverage policy and systems initiatives. Focus of division and projects are obesity and chronic disease prevention, with a priority on addressing racial, ethnic, and other inequities in health outcomes through policy, systems and environmental approaches in diverse sectors of the community.

  • Manages development, and implementation of workplan to collaborate with clinical and community partners in addressing food insecurity and access, including in healthcare settings, and linking residents to community food resources.
  • Manages development and implementation of initiatives to reduce sodium and sugary drink consumption through organizational procurement policies and practices that prioritize healthier food and beverage choices.
  • Manages Roxbury in Motion program contract with MA Department of Public Health Mass in Motion program.
  • Represents BPHC on food and beverage-related community and statewide working groups and committees.
  • Convenes and facilitates partnership meetings with internal and external partners to develop and monitor program initiatives.
  • Analyzes programs and policies that support chronic disease prevention and makes recommendations. Conducts literature reviews and other information gathering.
  • Prepares memos, reports, fact sheets, blogs, and related materials.
  • Manages development and implementation of other projects as assigned.
  • Provides planning and operational support to additional Division projects as team member.
  • Develops and manages program workplans, timelines, and budgets.
  • Stays current in best practices for addressing chronic disease prevention and food security.
  • Responsible for data management and analysis for assigned projects. Coordinates with division director and Research and Evaluation Office for program evaluation.
  • Presents project findings at conferences, meetings, and for community partners.
  • May supervise staff, interns and volunteers as appropriate.
  • Meets regularly with Division Director regarding all aspects of program work, including but not limited to confidential matters.
  • Works in a confidential capacity. Operates independently. Uses independent judgment and discretion to make decisions affecting the department and staff as it relates to unit operations/services and BPHC policy. Make and recommend management and personnel decisions for, including but not limited to promotion, transfer and assignment of staff, and imposition of discipline.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications

  • The preferred candidate will have Master's degree in public health, nutrition, food systems policy, or related discipline and 1+ years relevant experience in community health with a preferred focus in food policy or program implementation; OR BA/BS with 3+ years of relevant experience OR high school diploma/GED with 6+ years of relevant experience.
  • Knowledge and experience in how to plan, implement and manage health projects and initiatives.
  • Knowledge of public health policies and practices. Knowledge and experience in policy, systems and environmental approaches to obesity and chronic disease management is preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including ability to establish and maintain rapport with internal and external partners and to function as member of a team.
  • Strong writing skills, including ability to prepare reports, presentations and accurate records.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills; experience making presentations to diverse audiences and in facilitating meetings.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills, including developing time lines and meeting deadlines.
  • Advanced knowledge & experience with MSOffice, MSWord/Excel, Powerpoint, and Windows software.
  • Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment.
  • Understanding of and commitment to promoting racial justice and health equity.
  • Demonstrated cultural competence with diverse ethnic, cultural and socio-economic groups.
  • Prefer familiarity with Boston neighborhoods, community based organizations and systems.
  • Bilingual and/or bicultural applicants encouraged to apply.
  • Valid Massachusetts driver's license required. Access to own vehicle or ability to travel throughout Boston neighborhoods required.

Job Grade: SAL

Pay Range: $52,000 - $57,000 annually

Shift: Monday-Friday 9-5, 35 hours/week

Requires occasional evening and weekend work for community meetings and events
