It is with great pleasure that we announce the 2019 Friedman School Alumni Association Award winners.
Our recipients consistently exemplify the school's mission, make valuable contributions in their field, and reflect the Friedman School's outstanding alumni community. Selected annually from nominations submitted by faculty, staff, and alumni from around the world, these awards are the highest honors presented by the Alumni Association. The awards will be presented on Friday, April 26th, 2019 after the Gershoff Symposium. Please join us in congratulating the award winners!
The 2019 Alumni Association Award recipients are as follows:
Excellence in Nutrition Award
Lu Qi, NG04
Recognized for his tremendous contributions to the field of gene-diet/lifestyle interactions and research on nutritional epidemiology, nutrigenomics, and nutrigenetics of obesity, diabetes and cardiovascular diseases.
Leah Horowitz Award
Amelia LoDolce, N08
Recognized for uniting diverse communities around urban agriculture and access to sustainable healthy food in Binghamton, NY, including authoring new community food system zoning laws and spearheading a pilot program, Eat Well. Play Hard. Binghamton!
Rising Star Award
Tawanda Muzhingi, N08, NG14
Recognized for leading the successful commercialization of orange flesh sweet potato puree for bakery application in East Africa resulting in a new market for smallholder farmers, employment opportunities in rural areas, and a healthier bread alternative.
