Each year, the Friedman School recognizes faculty members who have made exceptional contributions to public impact and/or the intellectual life of the School over the past year. Faculty are eligible to receive the award for theirr contribution to one or more of these activities: teaching, advising and mentoring, research and public impact around health, equity and sustainability.
Friedman faculty can be honored through one of the following two awards:
The Mozaffarian Family Award for Public Impact
An annual faculty award for exceptional contributions to public impact has been generously endowed by the Mozaffarian family. The Mozaffarian Family Award for Public Impact will be awarded annually to a Friedman School faculty member who has demonstrated exceptional public impact by working to improve regional, national, and international well-being for better health, equity, and/or sustainability. Such recognition can be considered for a long-term general body of excellence or a specific achievement in this area. Awardees will receive a cash prize supported by the endowment.
Please note the following before you submit your nomination(s):
- All Friedman School faculty members are eligible regardless of type of appointment.
- Prior award winners may not be nominated. See webpage for past award winners.
- Nominators may solicit input from anyone except Dr. Mozaffarian to strengthen the nomination;
- Faculty members may self-nominate. Nominators may nominate more than one faculty member if desired.
- Any Friedman School faculty member, student, or staff member may nominate a Freidman School faculty member for the award.
- Multiple names of nominators may be included in one nomination. The name of the nominator submitting the nomination to Qualtrics should appear first.
- The name(s) of nominator(s) must be included with the nomination. No anonymous nominations will be accepted. However, names of nominators will not be shared beyond the Office of Faculty Affairs.
Nominations for the Mozaffarian Family Award for Public Impact should be submitted here. You will be asked to provide your name and the name of the faculty member you are nominating and why you believe the faculty member should be considered for this award. Length of nominations can be no more than 500 words or 3,300 characters (with spaces). Nominations will be reviewed by a committee of faculty, staff, and students. The winner will be chosen in early May and the award will be bestowed at Commencement.
The Friedman School Outstanding Faculty Member of the Year
This award recognizes and honors a faculty member who has made exceptional contributions to the intellectual life of the School over the past year through their contributions to one or more of the following: Teaching, Advising and Mentoring, Research, Public Impact and/or Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.
Please note the following before you submit your nomination(s):
- All Friedman School faculty members are eligible regardless of type of appointment.
- Prior award winners may not be nominated. See below for past award winners.
- Any Friedman School faculty member, student, or staff member may nominate a Friedman School faculty member for the award.
- Nominations should be for individual faculty members and not teams.
- A nominator may nominate multiple individual faculty members using separate nomination forms.
- Self-nominations will not be accepted.
- Multiple names of nominators may be included in one nomination. The name of the nominator submitting the nomination to Qualtrics should appear first.
- The name(s) of nominator(s) must be included with the nomination. No anonymous nominations will be accepted. However, names of nominators will not be shared beyond the review committee with nominees or the greater Friedman School community.
Nominations for the Outstanding Faculty Member of the Year award should be submitted here. You will be asked to provide your name and the name of the faculty member you are nominating and why you believe the faculty member should be considered for the award including the faculty member’s contributions over the past year to teaching, advising, mentoring, research, and/or public impact. Length of nominations can be no more than 500 words or 3,300 characters (with spaces). Nominations will be reviewed by the Friedman School division chairs and deans. The winner will be chosen in early May and bestowed at commencement.
