"Climate Change: Politically Relevant Science & Scientifically Grounded Policy. Examples from Mexico"

Abstract
Climate change policy presupposes an interaction between sciences and policies that is not always easy. However, the fact that science moves away from politics would imply the risk of increased conflicts and inequalities, affecting the most vulnerable. A similar effect will occur if policy decisions are not based on the best existing science. Climate Justice is a demand that urgently calls for strengthening the science-political relationship. If it happens, science must assume the importance of inter and trans discipline, and few scientists are willing or able to take that risk.
Speaker Bio
Cecilia Conde is a researcher at the Institute of Atmospheric Sciences and Climate Change at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), Mexico City, Mexico. She was the General Coordinator for Adaptation to Climate Change during the former Mexican Government from 2013 to 2017. Cecilia has participated three times in IPCC reports as lead author. Thus, she has experience in academia and Mexico's climate change policy. She has generated regional climate change scenarios, studied potential impacts, and currently works on possible implementations of adaptation actions.
