The Competition is open to all Tufts University students, alumni, faculty, and staff. No entrepreneurship or business experience is necessary. The top 7-10 applications will be chosen to pitch their great ideas at the Competition on April 3rd. $25,000 in cash prizes will be awarded to Competition winners.

What is the Competition?
The Tufts Food and Nutrition Entrepreneurship Competition is an Ideas competition sponsored by the Tufts Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy in collaboration with the Tufts Gordon Institute. If you have a great idea related to food and nutrition in an early stage of development, you should apply.
Who is eligible?
All Tufts University students, alumni, faculty and staff are eligible. Individuals or teams may apply. Individual applicants, or at least one member of a team, must be a Tufts university student, alumni, faculty member or staff member. If you have previously applied to the competition, you may reapply with a new idea.

How do I apply?

Applications will be judged on the basis of the degree of innovation, identifying a viable market opportunity or issue, and the potential impact of the idea if implemented. Finalists who are selected will be invited to pitch their idea at the Competition on April 3rd at the Friedman School of Nutrition. During the Competition finalists pitch to a live audience and panel of judges with expertise in entrepreneurship. Competition winners will be announced at the end of the afternoon.
When are applications due?
Applications are due via Qualtrics on February 13, 2019 at 5 pm.
Is assistance available for developing and preparing proposals?
Assistance in developing your idea and preparation of your application will be provided by a series of workshops in January and February. We ask that at least one member of each team try to attend each workshop.
If you would like an experienced entrepreneur to assist you in developing your idea or preparation of your application, please email NutritionEntre@tufts.edu with a brief description of your idea.
How do you write a business plan?
Though this is an ideas competition and we do not require a fully-developed robust business plan, the more you’ve developed and thought through a business plan the more successful your endeavor is likely to be. Writing a business plan will be the focus of one of the preparatory work shops. You can also find resources for writing a business plan here.
When will finalists be notified?
Finalists will be notified via email by March 5, 2019.
