Degree Payment Policies

Satisfactory completion of the master's degree requires two years of tuition. For students continuing on to the Ph.D. program from the M.S. program, one additional year of tuition is charged, for a total of three years. If the applicant is admitted directly into the Ph.D. program, two years of full tuition will be charged. Doctoral candidates who have satisfied their tuition obligation pay an annual fee in order to remain registered while working on their dissertation. The cost of tuition may be partially offset by a combination of employment opportunities on funded research projects, teaching assistantships, and tuition scholarships. (See Financial Aid.) Health insurance will be provided and billed to those students not covered under appropriate alternate plans. The trustees of Tufts University reserve the right to change the tuition and fees, or to establish additional fees or charges for special features or services whenever such action is deemed advisable. The earliest possible notification of changes in tuition and other fees will be given in these cases. If a student is permitted to pursue a degree on a part-time basis, the tuition fee is prorated. Enrollment in three or more courses per semester constitutes full-time status and in two courses or fewer constitutes part-time status. Tuition charges are not reduced when courses are accepted for transfer credit.
