Take a Single Course - Online or On-Campus

If you are not in a Friedman degree program, you may be eligible to apply to enroll in a Friedman degree program course or a Friedman Online Certificate program course and billed the corresponding semester tuition; we refer to this type of enrollment as “Special Student” enrollment. 

  • Friedman allows qualified individuals to take up to four degree program courses (NUTR) without first being admitted to a Friedman degree program and allows qualified individuals to take one non-degree program course (NUTC) without first being admitted to the Friedman Online Graduate Certificate program.

  • Students enrolling in a Masters of Nutrition Science and Policy (NUTB) course are required to attend the associated MNSP residency at Friedman in Boston.

  • Students may not enroll for courses that they have previously taken at Friedman or cross-register at any other school.

  • Tuition paid and credits earned for a non-degree Certificate course may not be applied to Friedman Degree program requirements.

  • Friedman degree program Alumni are allowed to enroll in one free course at the Friedman School per semester on a space available base, and must complete this application and meet all registration AND immunization requirements of Tufts University. This benefit does not apply to courses offered by the Online Graduate Certificate Program.

  • Alumni enrolling in a MNSP (NUTB) course are required to attend the associated MNSP residency at Friedman in Boston.

  • The Non-Degree Special Student tuition for a single Friedman degree program course in the 2017-2018 Academic Year is: $5,136 and the Certificate Special Student tuition for a single Friedman Online Certificate course is $2,540. 

  • Tuition Remission for Tufts University Employees:  If you are a Tufts University employee who wishes to take a class at the Friedman School as a Non-Degree Special Student, please be aware that there may be additional fees. Before submitting a Special Student Application Form, please review the Friedman School's Policy and Procedures Handbook to be clear about the policies, process, and costs involved.

  • Once the Friedman Registrar processes your official enrollment as a Non-Degree Special Student, Tufts University's Bursar's Office charges tuition with an E-bill via your SIS account. 

  • Important to Note: You may NOT enroll simultaneously in Nutrition degree program courses and Certificate courses.
