Our guiding principles for Fall 2020
- Prioritizing Safety and Wellbeing: The health and well-being of our entire Friedman School community, including our neighbors, was paramount in the decision to offer you these flexible options. By drastically reducing density in our physical space and on the Boston Campus, we can proceed knowing that we have taken prudent steps to minimize the risks to our school and neighbors, while allowing these flexible options that include the ability to return to campus.
- Centering Students: You are important, smart, committed, resilient, flexible, and professional. We respect your desire to not only progress toward your degree, but to proceed in a safe and accessible way. We will all be moving forward together this fall.
- Delivering Excellence: Faculty will be accessible online and in some cases on campus, while technology help will be delivered and supported by Tufts Technology Services 24 hours a day/7 days a week. Your online classes will be rigorous and compelling, and your in-person experiences will be supported by carefully planned safety measures that are in line with the most current recommendations.
- Strengthening Community: Changing to a new learning model will be a challenge, but our community is strong and we are all ready to do the work it takes to earn your participation and trust this fall.
- Staying Connected: We are rising to the challenge of creating a community among those who will be online and on campus. Special activities to bring together students, faculty and staff are being planned. These activities include: informal discussions with faculty about their research, special interest discussions for faculty and students about pressing issues, small group career advising sessions, and an enhanced ability to connect with practitioners and professionals who are members of our adjunct faculty or who are friends of the School.
- Making a Positive Impact: You will be making the right choice to attend this fall and it’s not just because we know how to deliver courses and other educational activities that work. It’s because the unique experiences you bring and the important skills you will learn are crucial to creating a better world.
Dean's Announcement
A message about the academic plans for Fall 2020 from President Monaco to the entire Tufts University community was just released and I encourage you to read his announcement in full to learn more about the reopening details that have been crafted at the University level.
When the world felt like it changed overnight this spring, our Friedman School community came together to make the semester work in inspiring and creative ways. We met the moment then, and now I want to ensure that your academic progress and incredible scholarship continue with the greatest of care taken for your safety, and with the least possible disruption.
Highlights from the Tufts University Plan
Safety is as important to you as it to us. Planned safety measures are linked to below. The School will continue to offer courses and activities on-campus as long as it is safe to do so, but in the event of campus closure due to worsening of COVID-19 we will be fully prepared to complete the semester remotely. Please keep in mind that not all of the details presented in the full Tufts University reopening plan are relevant to our School, especially those regarding residence halls, but we will be providing you with more details about School-specific plans soon through emails and website updates.
