Christopher D. Wiley, Ph.D. is an Assistant Professor of at the Tufts Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy and a Scientist II at the Jean Mayer USDA Human Nutrition Research Center on Aging at Tufts University. He holds additional appointments in the Department of Medicine and Graduate School of Biological Sciences.
Dr. Wiley studies the relationship between metabolism, cell fate decisions, and aging. In particular, he studies how metabolism influences the development of cellular senescence and cell death. His discoveries include characterization of novel forms of cellular senescence driven by mitochondrial dysfunction and HIV therapies, identification and detection of new lipid species produced by senescent cells, and elucidation of mechanism by which senescent cells can drive age-related diseases
