This project-based course refines students’ knowledge, skills, and attitudes for conducting advanced data analyses and answering complex research questions. We focus on understanding data limitations, formulating research objectives, conducting multi-stage data analyses, utilizing research workflows, and creating complex visualizations. Students will learn modern analytical methods and techniques essential for data analysis in a range of disciplines including nutrition, public health, medicine, environment, and climate. This course will provide readings, course projects, and practicum modules on current issues in research design, the scientific method, data quality and validity, data management, statistical software programming, biostatistical methodology, and research ethics. The course is also part of the NSF-funded study entitled SOLSTICE and incorporates Tufts IRB-approved essential research components such as pre- and post-course surveys and student consent forms. Designated time outside of the classroom is required for each student to work with their team partner to provide and receive feedback on homework assignments. Lab/technical sessions will be conducted online on Wednesdays.
