In DC's Ward 8 community, we have a high supply of diet-related inequities and a low supply of dietitians & nutritionists of African descent. That's why Women Advancing Nutrition Dietetics & Agriculture x Good Food Markets are launching the WANDA Fellowship to fund, mentor, and provide community nutrition & wellness field experience in Ward 8 to support a new generation of food sheroes. Based in Washington, DC, Women Advancing Nutrition Dietetics and Agriculture (WANDA) is working to end food apartheid caused by systemic racism in marginalized communities by transforming women and girls into food sheroes with a supportive, safe sisterhood of self-care and service. Founded in March 2016, WANDA is a women-led social justice nonprofit organization based in the Ward 8 community within the District of Columbia. Together we are striving to co-create a movement that centers Black women’s liberation through the power of food and self-care in addressing a persistent challenge facing communities like Ward 7 and 8.
