The South Shore YMCA Family Farm was created in 2018 with the purpose of giving back to the community through educational opportunities for children and families, donation of fresh produce to local food pantries, and responsible stewardship of the land to protect water resources, native plant species, and wildlife. Located on one acre of previously vacant land, the farm consists of a production field, a children’s learning garden, and raised beds. Organic, sustainable, and regenerative practices are used wherever possible. The farm hosts a variety of educational programs, including frequent interaction with the Hanover Early Learning Center daycare and preschool, summer camps, and special programs for the public.
