As part of the Massachusetts Chapter of The Nature Conservancy, the Climate Adaptation Scientist works with communities and stakeholders to co-develop and implement equitable nature based solutions that provide multiple benefits to nature and people at a pace and scale that matches the urgency of climate change, and develops measures of success relevant to ecosystem health and human well-being.
The Climate Adaptation Scientist advances climate adaptation and conservation of resilient lands and waters through development and implementation of strategies that protect and restore ecological integrity, reduce climate risks and promote human wellbeing. The position will work with partners in a social-ecological systems context, at the intersection of science, policy and public and private finance to develop, fund, implement, and monitor holistic ecosystem management approaches for climate resilience and water quality outcomes. The position will build and maintain relationships with front-line communities, community-building organizations, governments, academia, industry, and NGO partners to work towards climate justice and adaptation outcomes. This position will work with both traditional and innovative partners to incorporate nature-based solutions into development projects, hazard mitigation, climate resilience, and ecosystem service provisioning projects. This position will work to demonstrate and communicate that nature-based solutions are an integral component of a human-centered approach to climate resilience, keeping both people and nature safer into an uncertain future. This position will be an effective project partner, leading and assisting with project management and fulfillment in coastal, freshwater and upland ecosystems, grant writing and award management.
