Seeking a part-time/temporary Policy Research Intern to research existing policy tools used to promote farm to school activity in other states, analyze the applicability of these policies in Massachusetts, and assist with the development of three case studies here in Massachusetts. The Policy Research Intern will collect and analyze existing reports, update the research where new policies have been introduced, and analyze the findings in the context of the specific Massachusetts political, agricultural, and school food landscapes. The Policy Research Intern will be expected to produce a report providing a comparative analysis of these existing state-level policies that promote local foods procurement and education. The Policy Research Intern with also help MFTS staff conduct in-depth financial analysis of meal costs of 3-5 MA school districts to identify standard economic barriers and opportunities for greater local foods purchasing. The Intern will have the opportunity to develop experience in agriculture and food policy research, to gain a deeper understanding of farm to school policies across the United States, to contribute to the development of a state level policy strategy, and the skills to work in a small, fast paced, non-profit organization.
