Food, Nutrition, and Obesity Policy Internship at RTI International

RTI International has a Food, Nutrition, and Obesity Policy Internship opening for the upcoming three months (December 2017 through February 2018) within the Public Health Research Division. This internship will provide the successful prospect a mentored learning experience, and the opportunity to expand his/her classroom knowledge and skills within a professional setting.

The Food, Nutrition, and Obesity Policy (FNOP) Research Group conducts economic analyses, regulatory impact and policy analyses, model development, database design and maintenance, program evaluation, consumer behavior research, consumer and industry surveys, expert elicitations, field data collection, and agricultural market studies. Using qualitative and quantitative methods (e.g., focus groups, in depth interviews, surveys, and case studies), FNOP tests educational materials and alternative labeling formats, evaluates education programs, and conducts research to understand consumer knowledge, attitudes, and practices.

The selected intern will assist with RTI’s Evaluation of the the California Distinguished After School Health (DASH) Program, funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. In 2014, California became the first state to implement healthy eating and physical activity legislation specific to out-of-school-time (OST) programs by authorizing a voluntary recognition program called DASH (Distinguished After School Health). In this evaluation, we are working with the California Department of Education (CDE) and the Alliance for a Healthier Generation (AHG, with whom we have a subcontract) to evaluate DASH’s reach and impact over the past two years.
