The CSIS Humanitarian Agenda & Global Food Security Project provide long-term, strategic guidance for U.S. policy makers by providing timely policy research and analysis to ensure U.S. government policies are efficient, effective, and sustainable. Both programs are directed by Kimberly Flowers. The Humanitarian Agenda explores and evaluates the changing landscape of humanitarian assistance in the 21st century. The program is a part of a unique partnership between CSIS and the U.S. Agency for International Development’s (USAID) Office of U.S. Foreign Disaster Assistance (OFDA). The Global Food Security Project studies and highlights the impact of global food security on critical U.S. strategic interests, such as political stability and economic prosperity, through desk and field research, analytic publications, and public and private events.
By engaging and collaborating with thought leaders in Washington, D.C. and beyond, the project aims to increase the level of dialogue surrounding challenges to humanitarian assistance and to help develop both the policy solutions and political will to address them. Analyzing humanitarian access issues and creating a policy roadmap for the international and humanitarian community are important aspects of the project’s goal to strengthen and sustain best practices in the sector.
