Peter R. Dolan, A78, A08P, Chairman, Tufts University Board of Trustees, is to be honored at the upcoming Dean's Medal Ceremony at the Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy.
Mr. Dolan has served on the Tufts University Board of Trustees since 2001 and was elected chairman of the board in November 2013. Before becoming chairman, he served in several leadership capacities including vice chair of the board, chair of the Presidential Search Committee, and as chair or a member of the Compensation, Academic Affairs, Administration and Finance, Trusteeship and Audit Committees.
Mr. Dolan is the non-executive chairman of Allied Minds, an innovation company that forms, funds, manages and builds startups based on early-stage technology originating from U.S. universities and federally funded research institutions.
Mr. Dolan graduated from Tufts University in 1978 with a Bachelor of Arts majoring in social psychology. He then earned a Master of Business Administration from the Amos Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College.
He joined Bristol-Myers Squibb in 1988 and after more than a decade leading the company’s Consumer Products, Nutritionals and Medical Device businesses, he was named CEO of the company in 2001 at age 45. After his career at Bristol-Myers Squibb, he was Chairman and CEO of GeminX, a venture capital backed start-up oncology firm that was successfully sold to Cephalon Pharmaceuticals.
Mr. Dolan has served on the boards of multiple for-profits and not-for-profits, including the American Express Company, The National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse (CASA) and the Tuck School Board of Overseers at Dartmouth College. He currently serves as vice chair of the board of directors of the Partnership for a Healthier America.
He is Chairman of ChildObesity180, a nonprofit he cofounded in 2010 at the Friedman School. Today it is a recognized leader in childhood obesity prevention and has raised $30 million and employs 30 full time people.
The Dean’s Medal is awarded to honor those who have demonstrated loyalty, service and generosity to Tufts University.
