Famine, food security, livelihoods; Food aid; Humanitarian programs in both assistance and protection; Emergency preparedness, information systems and contingency planning; Humanitarian policy; Governance and human rights

Current Research: 

"Preventing Corruption in Humanitarian Assistance" (Study of practices by humanitarian NGOs to manage and limit the risk of corruption); "Targeting in Complex Emergencies" (The role of the recipient community in managing and targeting humanitarian assistance in complex emergencies - particularly food aid); "Livelihoods Change over Time" (Longitudinal study of livelihoods change in protracted to repeated humanitarian emergencies)

Past Research: 

Food Security measurement; Empirical analysis of famine and food crises in Greater Horn of Africa (Ethiopia, Sudan, Somalia, Burundi); Urban livelihoods, poverty and food security; Urban agriculture; Chronic vulnerability; Land tenure/livelihoods linkages; Nutrition programs
