In the Fall of 2001, the Henry R. Luce Professorship Program at Tufts launched a series of seminars and related activities in order to encourage discourse on cross-cutting issues in humanitarian and public health policy and practice. The aim is to provide a participatory forum for inter-disciplinary and cross-sectoral discussion of current topics of interest and concern among scholars and practitioners alike.

Luce Professor Astier M. Almedom is hosting an open seminar on Monday, October 20 featuring Tony Vaux, Humanitarian Initiatives, United Kingdom, author of The Selfish Altruist (2001). The title of his talk will be “Women Responding to Disasters: The Case of the Self Employed Women’s Association of India.” A light lunch will be served in the Elephant Lobby (Branum Hall) starting at 11:30 a.m. The talk is co-sponsored by the Biology department, Henry R. Luce Professorship in Science & Humanitarianism, Women’s Studies Program, the Institute of Human Security, and the Feinstein International Famine Center. For more information call 617-627-3195.
