Financial Aid
The Office of Financial Aid is responsible for all federal and need-based aid programs, including work study. This office has available brochures which describes financial aid in detail. Applicants should pay special attention to those sections directed to graduate students and to dates that applications are due. Upon acceptance, students may complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid form (FAFSA) in order to determine eligibility for National Direct Student Loans (NDSL) and work-study employment. More information can be obtained at the Tufts University Financial Aid Website at http://finaid.tufts.edu/.
The Financial Aid Office strongly encourages students to pursue Guaranteed Student Loans from local banks and credit unions if large amounts of financial aid are needed, especially the first semester. If financial needs are great, some applicants may wish to work for one year prior to applying, because the time constraints of the internship limit time available for working at jobs. Few students have been able to spend more than 10 hours per week in outside employment.
Student Employment
Please note that you must have a Work-Study Employment Form to be eligible for work-study employment. Other employment opportunities are located on JobX accessed via the following link: http://studentservices.tufts.edu/studentemployment/default.htm There may be other opportunities to work on nutrition related projects which are ongoing at the Medical School and Tufts University.
Frances Stern Nutrition Center
Frances Stern Nutrition Center offers a small amount of scholarship assistance to one or more entering students.
Scholarships
Awards are based on merit and financial need. Students fill out FSNC Financial Statements after acceptance. Students are encouraged to also fill out a Tufts financial form available at http://www.tufts.edu/nutrition/webcm/docs/finaid.pdf
FSNC also has a small, revolving loan fund of its own for interest free, short-term loans to enrolled interns. Contact the Nutrition Education Coordinator should the need arise. Loans are usually confined to emergencies. The maximum amount loaned is usually $1,000-2,000.
FSNC sometimes pay interns by the hour for library searches, other research related activities, and special projects. Eligibility for Work Study is not required for these paid assignments, but any intern who is eligible for Work Study should be sure to notify the Nutrition Education Coordinator.
Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy Scholarships
Some funding is available in the form of scholarships provided directly by the School of Nutrition Science and Policy. Contact Kelly Kane, Nutrition Education Coordinator (617-636-5273), for details.
