Admissions
Requirements
- Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university; a minimum university cumulative grade point average of 3.0 is required.
- Graduate Record Examination (GRE) Scores: verbal, mathematical, and analytical writing. The student should take the examination by December prior to the year of desired entry (Institution Code 3895).
- COMPLETION OF DIDACTIC PROGRAM OF DIETETICS ACADEMIC REQUIREMENT. For information concerning academic requirements for ADA membership and for general information concerning application to dietetic internships, log onto www.eatright.org or write to Publications Dept., American Dietetic Association, 120 South Riverside Plaza, Suite 2000, Chicago, IL 60606-6995. Selection of appointees is based on coursework (with special attention given to the sciences and other didactic courses), GRE results, experience, letters of recommendation, and the letter of application.
Application Forms
The Tufts University Graduate School application MUST be completed online at https://apply.embark.com/Grad/Tufts/grad/13/ Please note: it is NOT necessary to submit an essay, any recommendations, or the Tufts application fee online. In addition, the American Dietetic Association application form (available at http://www.tufts.edu/nutrition/webcm/docs/ada.doc) must also be printed out and completed. Please mail a hard copy of BOTH Tufts University and ADA application forms to Frances Stern Nutrition Center at the address below. Intention to Complete ADA Didactic Requirements or Verification of Completion of Requirements form must also be submitted at this time. These forms are available from your ADA advisor at the institution where you completed your requirements.
Deadline for Application
Application materials must be postmarked by February 15, of the year of desired matriculation. All application materials should be submitted in one packet.

Application Fee
$100 for FSNC application (non-refundable) and a $3000 payment to FSNC is required upon acceptance (the $3000 advance is credited to the Clinical Training Fee).
Computer Matching
The Frances Stern Nutrition Center's Combined Dietetic Required Internship/Masters' Degree program participates in the Computer Matching Program sponsored by the American Dietetic Association. All applicants must also participate in the Computer Matching Program, otherwise their application will not be considered. Applicants should request instructions, and a mark/sense card to prioritize their Dietetic Internship preferences, from any ADA-approved Didactic Program in Dietetics or from D&D Digital Systems. This request should be made to allow turnaround time for submission by the February 15 postmark deadline of the year of desired matriculation. There is no charge for this material. However, there is a $50.00 charge for computer matching that is due with the applicants prioritized ranking. Application Procedure
The following materials must be submitted to FSNC:
- American Dietetic Association Application form.
- A hard copy of the the Tufts University Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy application form (after completion of this form online). Mail this form to the Frances Stern Nutrition Center NOT the Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy. DO NOT send this form or any other application forms, recommendations, letters, or the Tufts application fee to Tufts University. DO NOT send the application directly to Tufts.
- A check for $100 payable to Frances Stern Nutrition Center must accompany each application. As an applicant to the Combined Master of Science/Dietetic Internship program, you are EXEMPT from the TUFTS application fee.
- Official transcripts complete through first semester senior year from all colleges or universities attended (or through graduation). All transcripts must show descriptive titles; catalogue descriptions are recommended. If only course umbers are shown, a catalogue description must be provided. Attached to this must be a list of courses to be completed prior to graduation, for students who have not yet graduated.
- An official Declaration of Intent to Complete Degree and ADA Academic Requirements, obtained from your Didactic Plan advisor, or an official Verification of Completion of Didactic Requirement.
- Three (3) letters of reference. The American Dietetic Association Dietetic Internship recommendation form is to be completed by the three people you have listed on your application as providing letters of recommendation. Only three letters of recommendation will be considered, and they should be from the following categories:
- A professor in food and nutrition.
- A second professor who is well acquainted with your work in institution management, nutrition, education or related subjects.
- One of the following for the third reference:
- A work reference or practicum reference (preferred)
- A professor in food science
- A professor in biochemistry
- A department head
- Official results of the Graduate Record Examination (GRE). TAKE EXAMINATION BY DECEMBER prior to year of desired entry (PLEASE NOTE: Institution Code 3895).
- A letter of application indicating applicant's reasons for her/his choice of internship and additional comments in support of the application. This letter is given careful attention during the selection process.
Interviews
Interviews are not required. However, we encourage applicants to know more about the program and see the facilities. Visits to the Frances Stern Nutrition Center can be arranged with advance notice.
Acceptance
Appointments to the internship are made on the day designated by ADA. Appointment letters are sent to the applicant. The Appointment Date is usually mid April. Appointments must be accepted or rejected by phone or telegram according to directions given in appointment letters. Accepted appointments must be accompanied by a check for $3,000 made out to Frances Stern Nutrition Center. This amount will be credited toward the Clinical Training Fee.
